Initiated by Ramesh Gupta Memorial Trust & Supported by World Child Cancer & Amgen in Bharatpur and Kathmandu
Effective medication management is crucial in treating childhood cancer, as it directly influences survival rates. Proper administration, storage, and accurate record-keeping of cytotoxic drugs are essential to ensure the safety and efficacy of cancer treatments.
Two pharmacy training programs were held on September 24th and 26th to address this crucial need. The first session took place at BPKMC, Bharatpur, and the second at Shanker Hotel, Kathmandu. These sessions aimed to improve the skills and knowledge of healthcare professionals managing childhood cancer medications. A total of 55 participants attended, including 25 nurses and pharmacists from BPKMCH, Bharatpur, and 30 participants from KCH, BCH, and PAHS.
The training covered the proper handling and administration of cytotoxic drugs, their storage needs, and the importance of accurate record-keeping to avoid errors and ensure the best treatment results. Participants also had the chance to engage in practical discussions and receive hands-on guidance from experts.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Barry Pizer and Ms. Lamia, who traveled from the UK to Nepal to share their valuable expertise. Their contributions greatly enhanced the training program and played a key role in its success. We would also like to thank World Child Cancer & Amgen for their Financial Support. This initiative is an important step toward improving childhood cancer treatment practices in Nepal and improving patient care in the long run.
